REGISTRATION AND DEADLINES

Q: How do I register my studio or dancer?
A: Registration is completed online through our dance partner, Dance Bug. Simply click “Register Now” on the homepage, create an account, and follow the steps to submit entries.

Q: When is the registration deadline?
A: Registration closes 30 days before each event or once capacity is reached. We recommend registering early to secure your spot.

Competition Details

Q: How are dancers placed in categories?
A: Categories are based on both age as of January 1st and training hours per week. Please see our “Levels & Age Divisions” page for detailed breakdowns.

Q: Can independent dancers (not with a studio) compete?
A: Yes! Independent entries are welcome as long as they are registered before the deadline.

Q: How long can routines be?
A: Time limits depend on entry type (solo, duet, group, etc.). Please review our Rules & Guidelines for specific time allowances.

Awards & Scoring

Q: How are routines scored?
A: Routines are adjudicated by a panel of judges and awarded Gold, Lightning Gold, Platinum, Lightning Platinum, or Surge Diamond.
 
Q: What special awards are given?
A: In addition to adjudications and overalls, Surge presents theme-based awards such as the Lightning Bolt Award, Surge Spirit Award, Spark of Technique Award, and more.
 
Q: What is the Electrya Champion Award?
A: This is our highest honor, awarded to the top scoring dancer across all levels and divisions.

Music & Props

Q: How do I submit music?
A: All music must be uploaded online at least 2 weeks prior to the event. Please bring a backup on iPod, iPhone, or iPad (no CDs).
 
Q: Are props allowed?
A: Yes, but they must be free-standing and set up quickly. For safety, no liquid, glitter, smoke, or powder is permitted without prior approval.

General Information

Q: Is photography or videography allowed?
A: For the safety and privacy of all performers, personal photography and videography during performances are not permitted. Professional media will be available for purchase.

Q: Do dancers need to stay for the entire event?
A: We encourage dancers to stay and support their peers, but the only required times are their scheduled performances and awards ceremonies.

Q: Where can I find event schedules?

A: Full schedules will be emailed to studios and posted online approximately 7–10 days before the event.
